Last Friday, Edgbaston College had the privilege of hosting St John Ambulance for their renowned Young Responders First Aid course. This hands-on session, designed to equip students with critical first aid skills, saw an impressive turnout of 33 students, all eager to learn how to respond effectively in emergency situations.
The students participated in a variety of practical activities throughout the afternoon, covering essential first aid techniques such as CPR, wound management, and dealing with minor injuries. By the end of the course, many felt prepared to step up and apply their newly acquired skills when necessary, knowing that their quick response could make all the difference in a crisis.
Among the highlights of the day were two Year 14 students, Zee and Musa, who bravely volunteered to demonstrate how to tie a tourniquet in front of the entire group. Their determination and poise in tackling this high-pressure task were remarkable. Musa’s performance was particularly outstanding, as he achieved the quickest tourniquet application time for the West Midlands region!
We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Eve and Talia from St John Ambulance for expertly running the course. Their guidance and expertise made the afternoon an engaging and impactful experience for all involved.
We commend our students for their commitment and focus during the training. Thanks to the knowledge and skills gained, they are now well-equipped to respond effectively in real-world emergency situations
