A number of students join our Year 13 Transfer Program every year after studying their first year of A-Levels elsewhere. This can be due to moving homes, wanting a fresh start or simply wanting to enhance your academic and career prospects. Our experienced teaching ensure additional support, bridging any knowledge and skills gaps and ensuring a smooth transition to Year 13. We also facilate for exam board swaps where possible.
Small class sizes (average of 7) guarantee individual attention, fostering academic excellence. Students also receive comprehensive university guidance as with all our current students, including personalised support from their tutor, experienced advisors, and Principal Owais Ahmed, in the year it is most needed.
Students transferring to Edgbaston College for their final year of A-Levels are expected to demonstrate a satisfactory understanding of their subjects and have achieved at least B grades (or equivalent in Year 12 assessments). In certain circumstances, and with careful assessment, it is possible for students to take up a new subject that they can complete in one year.
Students study three A-Level subjects over one year. The Year 13 Transfer course starts in September of Year 13 and students sit their final A-Level examinations at the end of the same academic year.
Here's how the structure works:
Students receive personalised guidance and support with their university and career aspirations. Their dedicated personal tutors, Principal Owais Ahmed, and our experienced educational consultants at Edgbaston Education work closely with each student to develop a tailored plan, ensuring students are equipped to achieve their individual goals. We offer expert advice on course selection, university applications (including Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry, and Law), personal statement crafting, interview preparation, and admissions test support. Our proven track record of successful placements demonstrates our commitment to student success.
Complementing our one-on-one guidance, our comprehensive careers program provides a wealth of resources and opportunities to explore their options and develop essential skills. Students benefit from:
Regular Careers Trips: Gaining valuable insights into potential career paths and academic choices through visits to universities and employers
Personal Development Sessions: Enhancing their leadership, resilience, teamwork, and other key skills through fortnightly workshops
Guest Speaker Series: Broadening their horizons and discovering diverse career possibilities by hearing from professionals in various fields, such as doctors, investment bankers, and engineers
This dual approach – combining personalised guidance with a robust college-wide program – ensures that our students receive the support and resources necessary to make informed decisions and thrive in their chosen paths.
