Inspection Reports

Letter From The Principal

Dear Edgbaston College Community,

I am thrilled to share the results of our most recent Ofsted inspection, which took place from the 12th to the 14th of March, 2024. It was our first full inspection, and it is with great pleasure that I announce Edgbaston College has been rated as 'Good' across all evaluated areas. These areas include the Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, and Leadership and Management.

I extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated staff members, whose tireless efforts have been pivotal in achieving this result. Our students also deserve immense praise for showcasing the true spirit and qualities of our school.

Education

At Edgbaston College, we take immense pride in our dedicated teaching staff, whose expertise and commitment are central to our educational success. Our students recognise this too, telling inspectors, "our teachers are skilled and supportive". They particularly appreciate how our teachers "go the extra mile to help them precisely understand what they are good at and what they need to improve".

Our robust assessment and teaching structure reinforces this. With weekly assessments and three mock exams annually, we ensure continuous monitoring and tailored feedback that helps each student identify their strengths and areas for improvement. This rigorous approach is complemented by our one-to-one support system for students who fall behind academically. As a result, inspectors noted how "those who fall behind catch up very quickly".

Careers

Strong careers preparation is integral to our vision of 'Education with a Purpose'. We offer a thorough and wide-ranging careers support, which includes termly careers meetings (often with myself), university/workplace trips, work experience opportunities, and hosting a range of guest speakers. Inspectors had the following to say about our careers provision: "Students told inspectors how this focus and support helped them achieve the university placements they had always dreamed about".

Supportive Environment

I believe a sixth-form setting should be both supportive and effective in maximising students' potential, academically and personally, while fostering independence and preparing them for the world of work and higher education. The inspectors' comments echo this belief: "There is an overwhelming sense of mutual respect between staff and students" and "staff are swift to act on those rare occasions when students need more support with studies or attendance at college". Our comprehensive pastoral and academic support systems, alongside vibrant enrichment activities, ensure that our students thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Looking Forward

The full inspection report can be accessed below. As we continue to develop and strengthen our offerings, we remain committed to our ethos of providing 'Education with a Purpose'. Plans are underway to expand our subject offerings and enhance our provisions for international students, ensuring that Edgbaston College remains a leader in both academic and career education.

Kind Regards
